Meta secured a legal victory as a U.S. federal judge dismissed claims that the company violated copyright laws by using authors' works to train its AI systems without permission. Judge Vince Chhabria ruled the plaintiffs, including high-profile figures like Sarah Silverman and Ta-Nehisi Coates, failed to demonstrate tangible harm from Meta’s use of their books.

The court classified Meta’s actions as "fair use," shielding it from liability. However, Chhabria cautioned that unauthorized use of copyrighted material for training large language models, such as those behind ChatGPT, may face legal challenges in future cases.
